A Big Skin Care Myth:
You can shrink your pore size.
Sorry guys. Many products LOVE to claim they can
actually shrink your pores, but there really is no way to do this.
Pore size is determined by genetics. They serve as a way for oil (sebum) to be released on your skin. Generally speaking, people with oily/acne prone skin have bigger pores and people with dry skin have smaller pores. As we age, we produce less collagen and the skin starts to sag, making pores look bigger. UV damage and smoking will speed this process up too.
While you cannot shrink your pores, you CAN take steps to make them appear smaller.
By using a combination of both physical exfoliants (facial scrubs with round grains) and chemical exfoliants (like glycolic acid serums) on a regular basis, will help remove surface dry cells so the opening of the pores is less deep making them look smaller.
What can you do?
1 – Make sure you’re really getting your face clean at night. I recommend washing your face with a good cleanser twice.
2 – Get professional skincare treatments every 4-6 weeks. I have all kinds of products, treatments and tools that soften your skin and make extractions a breeze.
3 – Exfoliate 1-3 times a week. The Ageless Total Resurfacing Masque from Image Skincare and the Tamba Sonic Facial Brush are two favorites and are available in my shop.
4 – Wear your sunscreen. Avoid UV damage as much as possible and save your skin.
5 – Serums. My favorites are the Mandelic serum from Face Reality and Ageless Total Anti-Aging Serum from Image Skincare.
6 – Use a makeup primer. It smooths things out before you put your foundation on and truly helps.
