Sleep your way to beautiful skin! April 2018 at Oleander Aesthetics

beauty sleep

Hello all,

When it comes to an effective beauty regime, the tips are endless. The one thing you never hear enough about is the most crucial factor of all: Beauty sleep!

Sleep is your body’s way of repairing and rejuvenating itself. Without the necessary sleep duration and quality, you can start to feel—and look—less than your best.  Taking the steps below will help get you a good night’s sleep can help you wake up feeling refreshed and beautiful.

Waking Up Less Puffy

Your body dispatches H2O as you snooze, sending moisture where it’s needed and getting rid of the excess. Cut this process short, and you’re more likely to end up with bags and obvious wrinkles.  Skimping on rest also increases your levels of inflammation and stress hormones, which can throw your immune system out of whack, aggravating skin problems like acne, psoriasis, and eczema.

Sleep on your back

I know this is tricky.  When most people sleep, they tend to lie on their sides, pressing their faces, chests, and stomachs into their pillows and blankets. Though it may be the most comfortable, side sleeping can lead to premature aging by allowing those pillows and blankets to pull on your skin. As a result, sleep creases and wrinkles deepen.

Your Body Pumps Out Healing Hormones

While you’re sleeping, your body—and your skin—are hard at work healing themselves. During the deeper phases of sleep, your body produces growth hormone, which repairs daily damage from things like sun exposure and pollution and creates new cells, so you wake up looking brighter, fresher, and more vibrant. That’s why bedtime can be a great time to apply a hardworking night creme to accelerate the restorative process.

Wear your hair up

Keeping your hair off your face at night is critical for gorgeous skin. Your hair naturally accrues oil and dirt throughout the day, which can accumulate on your face while you sleep.  Not to mention most shampoos and conditioners contain pore clogging ingredients.  Letting your hair drape over your face at night could lead to breakouts.

Use Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy can be an effective aid for getting adequate beauty sleep.  The scent of lavender, in particular, can help improve sleep patterns.   There are many ways to take advantage of aromatherapy. The simplest way is to scent your room with lavender and breathe deeply each evening.
