Answers to Common Questions

I'm a new client.  How do I choose the right facial treatment?

If you're uncertain what to book.  Start by scheduling a 60 minute Facial. This will allow time for consultation and goal-setting and will help gage how your skin responds to exfoliation & stimulation.

I need to pick up IMAGE Skincare or other products.

No problem.  Since Oleander Aesthetics is a private studio the doors are locked during appointments.  Simply contact Emma to reserve your products and set up a pick up time while the door is open.

What do I need to know about facial waxing?

Hair should be 1/4 inches long or at least 4 weeks after your last wax.

Brow appointments are generally 15-20 minutes long with exceptional detail to your eyebrows. Every element of your face and brows are considered when determining where they should start, arch, end, and how thick or thin they should be for your facial structure.  When we're done properly shaping your eyebrows a touch of powder is applied to define their shape & polish them to perfection.

Please note:

Facial waxing is not recommended if you have been tanning within 24 hours, or if you use Retin-A, Renova, Accutane, Differin, or any other topical or oral medication for acne or rosacea.

For best results, waxing every four weeks is recommended.

What is eyebrow and eyelash tinting?

Eyebrow and eyelash tinting is done using a vegetable based dye specifically formulated for the eye treatment that enhances your natural lashes and brows, making them look fuller, darker, and more defined without daily makeup.  This is especially wonderful for brows that are barely visible due to being light in color.

Kindy arrive to your appointment with no mascara on for lashes.

Is Microdermabrasion right for me?

Microdermabrasion can solve many different types of skin concerns, and the procedure is easy, painless and extremely effective.

Diamond microdermabrasion is an advanced mechanical method of exfoliating the skin. Exfoliation eliminates dead skin cells on the surface layer of your skin that can lead to complexion problems if not removed. The process is completed much quicker, and this allows the production of fresh new skin cells.

Microdermabrasion requires a series of treatments to provide fast improvement for skin concerns such as fine lines, blemishes and resultant scarring, age spots and sun damage. It works especially well on issues such as acne which is caused by too many dead skin cells leading to an infection within the skin. By removing this buildup of cells, skin is improved and additional problems are reduced or prevented.

This is a no-downtime procedure and can be done on its own or in combination with a Facial, Hydra-Flow Facial or O Peels.

*NOT for: anyone who has been on Acutane (or similar medication) or blood thinning medication within the last 12 months, anyone with active skin infections such as herpes simplex or active acne, pregnant or breast feeding women (in the first month,) anyone who has received injectables or fillers within 72 hours or facial peels or waxing within 14 days, type 1 diabetics, or sunburned skin.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is an exceptionally gentle method to resurface the face using an aesthetic tool. It removes the outermost layer of skin and has the added benefit of hair removal.

This is and a good choice for anyone with fine, “peach fuzz,” facial hair, and those with extremely sensitive skin, redness, rosacea, or visible capillary veins. Improvements such as smoother texture and a fresh skin appearance are immediately noticeable.

Following this treatment, products penetrate skin better and makeup glides on with a flawless finish. This is a no-downtime procedure and can be done on its own or in combination with any O Peel, Hydra-Flow Facial or Facial.

What is The Hydra-Flow-Facial

*NOT for: anyone who has been on Acutane (or similar medication) or blood thinning medication within the last 12 months, anyone with active skin infections such as herpes simplex or active acne, pregnant or breast feeding women (in the first month,) anyone who has received injectables or fillers within 72 hours or facial peels or waxing within 14 days, type 1 diabetics, or sunburned skin.

The Oxygen Infusion Treatment.

This non-invasive glowing treatment rejuvenates dull, lifeless skin; heals acne and plumps the fine lines and wrinkles right out of your skin. What's even better is virtually anyone can receive this treatment - it's that gentle.

How does it work?

Oxygen helps in the creation of energy, we require energy to think, breathe and prevent disease. Without oxygen our cells don't function properly and this includes our skin cells. After the age of 25 our measurable oxygen levels start dropping, so the more aged the skin, the lower the oxygen levels.

Adding this treatment can include oxygen that is anywhere from 21% to 98% pure oxygen. A machine is used in combination with a uplifting massage using skin specific products that push oxygen, vitamins and nutrients into the skin.
Aside from the infusion of oxygen and vitamins, oxygen also encourages the growth of new skin cells, as well as collagen and elastin.  So, not only is this a great solution for younger looking skin, it can also help to heal acne encouraging new cells at a faster rate.

Who can benefit?

Everyone!  This is a safe and easy weay to spice up your summer treatments.  After an oxygen treatment, you can resume your normal activities, exercise and apply makeup without worry. This makes it a perfect option for special events, those with sensitive skin or anyone that doesn't want down-time. The infusion of oxygen and nutrients into the skin smooths, plumps and evens out skin tone without the side effects generally associated with advanced treatments.

*Add this treatment to any facial, dermaplaning or microdermabrasion treatment.
Already included in Hydraflow treatments.

What should I know about Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels treatments are used to resurface the outer layers of the skin. They help to correct skin imperfections such as acne, wrinkles, pigmentation, and redness caused by rosacea. They are a safe and effective way to reveal your skin’s natural beauty. Oleander Aesthetics offer a wide variety of Image Skincare chemical peels, customized to your skin type and concerns.

To obtain optimal results, a series of 6–8 treatments every 3-4 weeks, in addition to home care is essential .

Before treatment:

For three days prior to your chemical peel appointment, please avoid sun exposure, laser resurfacing or laser hair removal, topical prescriptions, AHA, BHA, Benzoyl Peroxide, and exfoliation with glycolic acid, scrubs, retinol, or facial waxing.

After Treatment:

For most clients, a light flaking begins within 48 hours. It is impossible to predetermine how much will occur. The shedding process usually subsides within two to three days. Not all clients will experience peeling and not all peels have downtime.

If peeling does occur, it is important to allow the natural shedding process. It's best to avoid sun exposure, sweating, intense heat or cardio, laser resurfacing or laser hair removal, topical prescriptions, AHA, BHA, Benzoyl Peroxide, and exfoliation with glycolic acid, scrubs, retinol, or facial waxing.

What's Glow Wand technology?

What is the Glow Wand Facial?

The Glow Wand Facial is a results-driven, glow-enhancing treatment that combines advanced oxygenation technology, exfoliating actives, and sculpting massage techniques to visibly brighten, smooth, and refresh the skin. It’s designed to leave the skin looking lifted, hydrated, and naturally radiant—without downtime.

How does the Glow Wand work?

The Glow Wand works by delivering a controlled oxygenating and exfoliating experience to the skin while stimulating circulation and product absorption. This helps improve skin tone, texture, and overall radiance.

A key part of this process is how your skin responds to oxygen at a cellular level, known as the Bohr effect.

What is the Bohr effect (and why does it matter for my skin)?

The Bohr effect is a natural biological process that describes how oxygen is released more efficiently into tissues when carbon dioxide levels increase locally.

In simple terms:
When the skin is gently stimulated (through massage, exfoliation, and controlled oxygen delivery), it signals the body to send more oxygen to the area.

More oxygen in the skin =

  • improved cellular energy
  • faster renewal and repair
  • brighter, healthier-looking skin
  • enhanced natural glow

This is one of the reasons the Glow Wand Facial leaves the skin looking instantly more refreshed and vibrant.

What are the benefits of the Glow Wand Facial?

Clients typically choose this facial to:

  • Brighten dull or tired skin
  • Improve overall tone and texture
  • Boost hydration and glow
  • Support healthy collagen function
  • Visibly refresh and de-puff the face
  • Experience a relaxing yet results-focused treatment

Who is this facial best for?

This treatment is ideal for anyone who wants:

  • a quick skin refresh before an event
  • ongoing maintenance for glow and clarity
  • anti-aging support without aggressive downtime treatments
  • a relaxing facial that still delivers visible results

About Me

I'm Emma Powis. My curiosity for aesthetics began when I was very young. I remember sitting in the bathroom fascinated by the tweezers and combining a variety of my Mothers masks, goopy creams, and lotions. I would apply them to both myself and my friends and wait anxiously to see what sort of amazing skin transformation had happened underneath.

After a brief detour and degree in Interior Design, I found myself back in Kansas City attending school to fulfill my first true passion, aesthetics! In 2006 I graduated and worked in medical aesthetics and dermatology offices. I've had the opportunity work with a variety of skin conditions, lasers, IPL, machines, chemical peels, product lines and gained valuable knowledge.

Along my journey I started missing the relaxation of the spa and a more holistic approach to skin care. I now pride myself on providing alternative methods and ingredient conscious products with the same medical effectiveness.

Vibrant, healthy skin is within everyone's reach. I enjoy educating my clients on the best possible treatment plan and home care regimen, always addressing the internal & external factors affecting the skin. The ultimate goal at Oleander Aesthetics is to soothe the soul and provide real, visible results.

By appointment only.
