Answers to Common Questions

I'm a new client.  How do I choose the right facial treatment?

Start by scheduling a 60 minute Facial. This will allow time for consultation and goal-setting. An Ultrasonic facial treatment will help me get a feel for how your skin responds to exfoliation & stimulation.

What do your facials include?

During 60 minute facials you will be treated with IMAGE skincare cleansers, herbal infused steam and towels, Ultrasonic exfoliation, extractions (as needed), masquing, serums and moisturizing/SPF infusion with exceptional attention to detail after a skin evaluation to customize.

People are unaware of how relaxing a facial really is. While helping address and fix your skin concerns you will stay relaxed and comfortable with a soothing facial, shoulder, arm and hand massage during facial session.

What is Ultrasonic cleansing?

Ultrasonic Deep Cleansing treatment cleanses your skin using the motion of Ultrasonic waves. It's an effective method to remove aged cells from the surface of your skin, as well as impurities such as blackheads and whiteheads.

An Ultrasonic cleanse carries another notable and important benefit: is helps skincare products penetrate into the skin.
Immediately after each treatment, you'll notice your skin is more clear, soft, and compliant.

I need to pick up IMAGE Skincare or other products.

No problem.  Since Oleander Aesthetics is a private studio the doors are locked during appointments.  Simply contact Emma to reserve your products and set up a pick up time while the door is open.

What do I need to know about facial waxing?

Hair should be 1/4 to 1/2 inches long. At least two weeks of no shaving or 4 weeks after your last wax.

Brow appointments are generally 30 minutes long with exceptional detail to your eyebrows. Every element of your face and brows are considered when determining where they should start, arch, end, and how thick or thin they should be for your facial structure.  When we're done properly shaping your eyebrows a touch of powder or pencil & highlighter is applied to define their shape & polish them to perfection.

Please note:

Facial waxing is not recommended if you have been tanning within 24 hours, or if you use Retin-A, Renova, Accutane, Differin, or any other topical or oral medication for acne or rosacea.

For best results, waxing every four weeks is recommended.

What is eyebrow tinting?

Eyebrow tinting is done using a vegetable based dye specifically formulated for the eye area to add depth, richness & cover light or greying eyebrows.  This is especially wonderful for brows that are barely visible due to being light in color.

When you arrive.

Is Microdermabrasion right for me?

Microdermabrasion can solve many different types of skin concerns, and the procedure is easy, painless and extremely effective.

Diamond microdermabrasion is an advanced mechanical method of exfoliating the skin. Exfoliation eliminates dead skin cells on the surface layer of your skin that can lead to complexion problems if not removed. The process is completed much quicker, and this allows the production of fresh new skin cells.

Microdermabrasion requires a series of treatments to provide fast improvement for skin concerns such as fine lines, blemishes and resultant scarring, age spots and sun damage. It works especially well on issues such as acne which is caused by too many dead skin cells leading to an infection within the skin. By removing this buildup of cells, skin is improved and additional problems are reduced or prevented.

This is a no-downtime procedure and can be done on its own or in combination with a Facial, Hydra-Flow Facial or O Peels.

*NOT for: anyone who has been on Acutane (or similar medication) or blood thinning medication within the last 12 months, anyone with active skin infections such as herpes simplex or active acne, pregnant or breast feeding women (in the first month,) anyone who has received injectables or fillers within 72 hours or facial peels or waxing within 14 days, type 1 diabetics, or sunburned skin.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is an exceptionally gentle method to resurface the face using an aesthetic tool. It removes the outermost layer of skin and has the added benefit of hair removal.

This is and a good choice for anyone with fine, “peach fuzz,” facial hair, and those with extremely sensitive skin, redness, rosacea, or visible capillary veins. Improvements such as smoother texture and a fresh skin appearance are immediately noticeable.

Following this treatment, products penetrate skin better and makeup glides on with a flawless finish. This is a no-downtime procedure and can be done on its own or in combination with any O Peel, Hydra-Flow Facial or Facial.

What is The Hydra-Flow-Facial?

If you're ready to take your facials to the next level then consider The Hydra-Flow Facial.  The Hydra-Flow is a customizable treatment that combines five steps: Cleansing, exfoliation, painless Vortex extraction, ageless hydration and an oxygen infusion.  It uses skin exfoliating technology called hydro-dermabrasion, which blasts the skin with an oxygenated and vitamin-infused water via a wand equipped with a resurfacing tips which also helps to lift off dead skin cells—sort of like giving your face a very gentle and effective power wash.

Effective for all skin types and provides immediate results without discomfort or downtime.  Many concerns can be improved or corrected with regular treatments, including:

  • Moisturizes dehydrated skin
  • Gives dull skin a radiant glow
  • Exfoliates buildup of dead skin cells
  • Softens and smooths rough, flaky skin
  • Deep cleanses congested skin
  • Reduces blackheads and breakouts

The benefits of the Hydra-Flow results are apparent in as little as one treatment. You’ll realize even longer lasting and effective results with a series.

The treatment is soothing, refreshing, non-irritating and gives an instant glow. It’s sure to become an Oleander favorite!

What should I know about Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels treatments are used to resurface the outer layers of the skin. They help to correct skin imperfections such as acne, wrinkles, pigmentation, and redness caused by rosacea. They are a safe and effective way to reveal your skin’s natural beauty. Oleander Aesthetics offer a wide variety of Image Skincare chemical peels, customized to your skin type and concerns.

To obtain optimal results, a series of 6–8 treatments every 3-4 weeks, in addition to home care is essential .

Before treatment:

For three days prior to your chemical peel appointment, please avoid sun exposure, laser resurfacing or laser hair removal, topical prescriptions, AHA, BHA, Benzoyl Peroxide, and exfoliation with glycolic acid, scrubs, retinol, or facial waxing.

After Treatment:

For most clients, a light flaking begins within 48 hours. It is impossible to predetermine how much will occur. The shedding process usually subsides within two to three days. Not all clients will experience peeling and not all peels have downtime.

If peeling does occur, it is important to allow the natural shedding process. It's best to avoid sun exposure, sweating, intense heat or cardio, laser resurfacing or laser hair removal, topical prescriptions, AHA, BHA, Benzoyl Peroxide, and exfoliation with glycolic acid, scrubs, retinol, or facial waxing.

About Me

I'm Emma Powis. My curiosity for aesthetics began when I was very young. I remember sitting in the bathroom fascinated by the tweezers and combining a variety of my Mothers masks, goopy creams, and lotions. I would apply them to both myself and my friends and wait anxiously to see what sort of amazing skin transformation had happened underneath.

After a brief detour and degree in Interior Design, I found myself back in Kansas City attending school to fulfill my first true passion, aesthetics! In 2006 I graduated and worked in medical aesthetics and dermatology offices. I've had the opportunity work with a variety of skin conditions, lasers, IPL, machines, chemical peels, product lines and gained valuable knowledge.

Along my journey I started missing the relaxation of the spa and a more holistic approach to skin care. I now pride myself on providing alternative methods and ingredient conscious products with the same medical effectiveness.

Vibrant, healthy skin is within everyone's reach. I enjoy educating my clients on the best possible treatment plan and home care regimen, always addressing the internal & external factors affecting the skin. The ultimate goal at Oleander Aesthetics is to soothe the soul and provide real, visible results.

By appointment only.
